FAQs
Why is collagen supplementation important for injury prevention?
For athletes, acute soft-tissue injuries, those affecting muscles, tendons and ligaments, are extremely common and result from fibre degeneration or commonly known as overuse. These injuries are frustrating for athletes as they are slow to recover. High performing tendons and ligaments combine both strength and flexibility allowing athletes to remain functional at top speeds and power for longer. Collagen fibres can provide them the right elasticity for optimal function and performance, especially when ageing.
Why athletes need to use Tendoforte® collagen peptides?
TENDOFORTE®, Bioactive Collagen Peptides from GELITA, Germany, are specifically designed to increase the health and quality of ligaments and tendons. Pre-clinical and clinical trials show the positive effects of TENDOFORTE®, especially when combined with physical activity. The risk of injury decreases considerably, whilst flexibility improves. TENDOFORTE® is also clinically tested to significantly strengthen tendons and ligaments.
How do Tendoforte® collagen peptides work?
GELITA Bioactive Collagen Peptides® (BCP) are a composition of different specific peptides optimised for specific physiological benefits. The peptides are derived from a highly controlled production process of collagen which is determined by hydrolysation conditions. As a result, GELITA Bioactive Collagen Peptides® differ in physiological functionality. They are optimized to maximise the stimulation of human cell types involved in collagen biosynthesis.
Is it better to take collagen before or after workout?
The authors of a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition investigated whether taking gelatin and vitamin C before exercise could increase collagen production. They concluded that participants’ collagen synthesis peaked 60 minutes after they took the supplement, so on training days, the best time to take collagen is an hour before your session. That said, the high amino acid content of collagen also makes it a great post-workout choice.
Which types of collagen are the most important for athletes?
There are 28 kinds of collagen, these three types comprise 80 to 90% of collagen in the body:
Type I: Skin, tendons, bones, ligaments, teeth, and interstitial tissues.
Type II: Cartilage, vitreous humour (part of the eyes).
Type III: Skin, muscles, blood vessels.
Type IV. This type is found in the layers of your skin.
Type V. This type is found in the cornea of your eyes, some layers of skin, hair and tissue of the placenta.
Can collagen help with joint pain?
Yes, collagen can help reduce joint pain and improve joint health and function. Collagen is rich in essential amino acids that can help build joint cartilage, so it can help with healing post-injury or surgery.
Is there anyone who should avoid collagen?
Some collagen supplements contain eggs or shellfish (NOT PILLAR), so anyone with allergies to these products should avoid them. Note PILLAR Collagen Repair is Bovine derived and not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
What’s the difference between Bovine collagen and marine collagen?
The key difference is where it’s derived from: marine collagen is sourced from fish. The collagen is obtained from their skin and scales through a process of hydrolysation (using water to break down the collagen molecules into peptides). Grass-fed collagen is sourced from the hides of grass-fed cows.
